The 140-year-old Greek Revival House in Atchison was as traditional as possible. I filled it with antiques, when I could afford it, and to stretch my budget as much as possible, good bits of reproduction deception. I covered the walls with classic artwork, like plants.
As much as I liked it, and I had the impression that every inch was a reflection of me, I never wanted to freeze the decor in time. Or bleak and dated. I wanted my home to respect the classic furniture I feel crazy about, but I also welcome the new patterns, colors, and styles that today's designers created.
So Dan and I started experimenting.
We bought some artworks that weren't our usual dishes, more contemporary, slightly emotional. It was fun to say "No thanks" to the idea that your home should match the rigid design category, be it traditional or contemporary.
We were amazed at how these little touches shook our house, giving it a boost of new energy, while allowing our spaces to reverse the classic style we loved.
I am obsessed with large textiles, so my next step for the kid was to cover some distinctive pillows in the living room with more transition and contemporary fabrics. It may have been printed in the shape of an animal or sapphire.
I have blended these new arrivals with my longtime favorites, and men's fabrics like plaids, bales and stripes.
It was amazing how they worked together to revive my room. You are addicted.
We work with many people who have inherited great traditional pieces, such as the Duncan Phyfe dining table to die for or the Sheraton buffet. ... it can be difficult to keep up with the latest changes in home decor styles. But the most recent trend can allow you to have an elegant home, especially if you have kept some of the family treasures.
The blending of traditional and contemporary home décor can blend your spaces with a warm yet modern setting. Keeping these traditional touches, furniture or even wallpaper in your home and mixing them with contemporary items in clean lines or bright colors can create a comfortable and eye-catching look. You can incorporate this style into any room in the house, and this allows you to display the mirror your grandmother had in her bathroom, or to give life and energy to the new meters. With old marble for your kitchen.
Try these tips to get the most out of the old with a new look on your home:
* Accent in white - a great way to give the room a contemporary balance is to accent in white. The fixtures, molds, doors, and even decorative covers that you use can save new energy for a piece of furniture or something old you've had in your family for years. Combining soft wood tones for antique furniture or dark wood floors with cool new white accents will make the room vibrant. If your kitchen is contemporary white, add Danze faucets to stainless steel finishes that offer a more traditional décor to balance the overall feel.
* Choose your finishes with intent - the finishing you choose for fixtures and faucets will have a major impact on the look of the room. For example, a white sink or toilet fits nicely when adding contemporary items to a cookie, which will bring a more moderate traditional flavor. The choice of bronze faucets can add a noticeable and beautiful aberration to the white bathroom decor. ...
